Health and safety

Online Tool Hire takes health and safety very seriously. Below are the key points to consider when working with tools and construction equipment.

Dust

As COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations 19GG state workers must prevent the exposure of crystalline silica dust, or where prevention is not practical, control the airborne exposure. To deal with these hazards we have available dust masks and dust extraction units.

Working at height

1. Carry out work at ground level where possible.

2. lf you must work at heights do everything possible to prevent a fall by using guard rails, guard frames, harnesses and so on. Where it is not practical to fit harnesses or guard rails another system must be in place to prevent workers hitting the ground, for example a foam or air cushion.

Noise

Control of noise at work regulations 2005/6 aim to ensure your hearing is protected from excessive noise. Ear protection must be worn if noise exceeds 80 decibels. Equipment for measuring noise levels are available from our company, Ear protection i,e. ear defenders and or ear plugs are available for sale.

Vibration

H.A.V.S. hand arm vibration syndrome. Control of Vibration at Work regulations 200B apply to anyone using equipment that may cause harm from vibration. We use the health and safety executive traffic light system to identify safe limits of power tool use:

Green - allows equipment to be used regularly over an 8 hour period.

Amber - allows a maximum of 2 hours over an 8 hour period.

Red - shows equipment that can cause a vibration injury even if used for a very shoft period.
